Description | First printing in 1947 at 1/3d. This publication is one of the first five post war Micromodels. Re-printed in 1953 at 2/6d. No significant stocks passed on to the Watford Model Supply Co. in 1971. Micromodels London has published a reprint. There is a great similarity between the artwork of this set and the single card railway models issued by Modelcraft Ltd. Justin Olson, who has built this set, has some remarks about the models: “ The Micromodels reference for locomotives in the early days must have been scarce as the ‘Super Pacific‘ is really a Thompson A1/1, often considered to be anything but ‘super’. Part of its undercarriage must be trimmed away to make the boiler fit right. Likewise, the Duchess has a strange gray smokebox front which is entirely absent on the real life prototype. Some later prints of Set M 1 appear to have considerate scarring on one side of the Lord Collingwood locomotive’s wheels. To repair the wheels it is advised to draw up the missing portions with a fine marker, using the remaining artwork as a guide. Despite these oversights they make up into nice little models. ” |
